Southport and Formby Health WINNER OF PRESTIGIOUS STUDENT NURSING TIMES AWARD

Southport and Formby Health has won the Student Placement of the Year: Community at the 2024 Student Nursing Times Awards.

The inspirational winners of the 2024 Student Nursing Times Awards were revealed in front of the nursing community on Friday 26 April at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Celebrating its 13th year, the Student Nursing Times Awards brought together near 800 talented student nurses, education providers, and mentors entering.

The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrates the very best in nurse education, recognises and rewards brilliant educational establishments and honours those who are committed to developing new nursing talent as mentors, lecturers and providers of placements. The awards also pays tribute to students who have demonstrated the academic achievement, clinical prowess and personal qualities that will make them brilliant nurses.

Following a rigorous judging process with an independent panel of judges, Southport and Formby Health won and this is what the judges said about Southport and Formby Health:

Our judges said this entry was innovative and demonstrated how students can link theory to practice. It has actively changed practice within the general practice setting to enhance the care of learning disability and mental health clients. Maggi is a driving force and credit is due to her for moving this placement forward and increasing the number of students able to have this experience across 10 different practices. The resource packs and the videos are very innovative and give the opportunity to spread this good practice wider.

Lindsay McClellend, Clinical Lead, Sefton Training Hub commented:

"I am so proud of the Sefton Training Hub Team for achieving this award. The Sefton Training Hub has gone above and beyond to think of innovative new ways to offer community placements for all student nurse disciplines, ensuring nurse students get the depth and breadth of experience they need, in order to become independent, holistic Clinicians.

"The recent pilot with Learning Disability nurse students, under the Aquarium programme has been a great success. We have managed to recruit learning disability nurses across our PCN, strengthening and broadening the future workforce and looking towards a more resilient and sustainable workforce. This award gives the deserved recognition for all those involved, who worked so passionately to make this happen."

Editor of Nursing Times, Steve Ford, said:

“A massive congratulations to all of our winners at the 2024 Student Nursing Times Awards. It is always an honour to host the awards each year and once again, I was really impressed by the calibre of the entries.

“The Student Nursing Times Awards hold a unique place in the nursing calendar, specifically setting out to recognise an outstanding group of students on their journey to becoming the nurses and midwives.

“We celebrate students from all branches of the profession and from over the UK. Their innovation and achievements so early in their career already mark them out as sources of inspiration and rising stars for the future.

“The awards also seek to recognise the cream of those who support them along the way, including the best lecturers, universities and healthcare providers.

“The winning educators, universities and placement providers demonstrate the constant evolution and development in the way the next generation of nurses are educated, equipping them to deal with the challenges they will face and to provide the best care possible.”

“By celebrating the best in nursing and midwifery education, Nursing Times aims to support the health and social care workforce of the future.”
