Sefton Training Hub
Welcome to your Sefton Training Hub. Your local community led team is here to help your PCN, your practice, your staff and ultimately your patients. We are a group of people who support the development and transformation of the primary and community care workforce through education and training across Southport & Formby and South Sefton. Part of the Cheshire & Merseyside Training Hub, our aim is to help attract, recruit and retain staff to ensure that our workforce is fit for the future and so that our patients will benefit from high quality care and services.
The Sefton Training Hub is designed to meet the educational needs of the multi-disciplinary primary care team across the Sefton area. The hub is responsible for the placement of Physician Associate students across Cheshire and Merseyside and student nurse placements across our patch. The overarching objective for the training hubs is to support with the growth and development of the primary care workforce across Sefton.
How can the we help you?
We bring together education and training resources from NHS organisations, community providers as well as local authorities. With access to a range of information, resources, and contacts within national and local networks we look to offer practical guidance, support on educational workforce development. Sefton Training Hub are always working on innovative pieces of work that offer that helping hand to practices and the local area e.g. the PA preceptorship programme in partnership with Southport & Ormskirk Hospital Trust giving PAs a foundation of training at community and trust level or the Learning Disabilities/Mental Health Student Nurse pilot giving student nurses autonomy in their learning competencies but also helping in freeing up practices time with audits.
As a training hub we provide your PCN and practice with:
- Being a key role in understanding, influencing, supporting, and leading educational interventions around population health needs and health inequalities in their area to address these
- Providing advice on workforce planning and training needs analysis, to help find which roles best meet the needs of the population. For example, actively supporting workforce planning by understanding population health needs and the training needs required to support new care pathways
- Help new staff, appointed through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) scheme, embed into roles, for example supporting the roll out of the First Contact Practitioner (FCP) programme
- Facilitating and/or deliver opportunities for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, based on scoping CPD requirements across PCNs
- Providing career support at all stages for all primary care workforce
- Train and, where appropriate, recruit more educators
- Developing and help to keep staff through retention programmes, for example mentoring, and preceptorships
- Supporting practices and PCNs, who are looking to become learning environments, to increase the number of placements for a variety of trainees and students
